80 Million Americans Can Benefit From New Diabetes Resource - Free Educational Website Created By UCSF Diabetes Teaching Center Goes Live

A discharge online diabetes self-management education program, hTTP://www.deo.ucsf.edu, has been launched by the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) Diabetes Teaching Center. This website mirrors the highly successful American Diabetes Association (ADA) accredited teaching program course of study created by UCSF clinicians and presented to thousands of patients at UCSF over the past 30 years.

Because the rate of diabetes is increasing so rapidly, the motivation for diabetes education and medical care far exceeds the number of dedicated diabetes tutelage providers. According to the latest statistics released by the ADA, in the U.S. there are all over 23 jillion individuals with diabetes and 57 trillion with pre-diabetes, yet it has been estimated that only 4,000 trained diabetes physicians provide specialized care. Very few individuals with diabetes can expect to construe a diabetes specialist - but everyone with internet access can now be educated about diabetes.

Not only does the internet site offer a complete, separate curriculum for type 1 and character 2 patients, it provides a sub-curriculum for type 2 patients based on treatment (oral medication management vs. insulin management) and information for health aid providers. For the newly diagnosed, this website tin can help individuals understand diabetes, and facilitate the necessary lifestyle changes to superintend their caution. For those already living with diabetes, this computer programme provides training in the latest advances in self-care and problem solving skills.

Diabetes Education Online (DEO) is unique from other diabetes education websites in that it focuses on the equation, "understanding = improved management." Through the years, UCSF clinicians have recognized that it is simply as important to explain why to do something, as easily as what to do. Each segment provides elaborated explanations and includes scientific background information, self-management direction, and optional self-quizzes to assess knowledge learned. In addition, a comprehensive library provides printable handouts of key tables, charts, and illustrations, plus video access to educational presentations.

This website is designed to provide information that is specific to the individual's needs. Even though the website provides concepts and ideas for managing wellness, it is important that the case-by-case works with his or her health care provider to create a personal plan of care.

Currently the web site is available in English. Foreign lyric versions ar planned in the future.

Brad Pitt - Pittjolies Wine Estate Boss Thrilled By Celebrity Summer Tenants

LATEST: The owner of the Chateau Miraval wine estate in Provence, France has confirmed BRAD PITT and ANGELINA JOLIE have rented out the exclusive retreat for the summer (08).

The news fuels speculation that Jolie plans to give birth to her twins in Provence in August (08) to honour her late mother Marcheline Bertrand's family, who hailed from the region.

Miraval owner Tom Bove tells Bloomberg News that the couple contacted him weeks ago, admitting they "dropped out of the sky."

He adds, "They're personally very nice. Brad is from the Midwest, as I am."

The vineyard and the Miraval wines it produces have become world famous thanks to the Bove family's attempts to improve the crop with the help of organic cultivation.

The estate also features a recording studio that has been used by Sting and Pink Floyd, who recorded pparts of their The Wall album there.

Pitt and Jolie's decision to use the estate as a retreat this summer (08) has given Miraval's wines a huge boost.

Retailers can't get enough of the winery's reds, whites and roses, with one of Miraval's leading U.S. importers, Monarchia Matt International, reporting cases and bottles are "nearly gone".

Denise Richards Loves Saying 'C*nt'

Denise Richards showcases her limited vocabulary in the second episode of her reality TV show by dropping the C-bomb – repeatedly.

And just in case we didn’t hear the mom-of-two call a reporter a ‘c*unt’ first time round, the classy former Bond girl repeats it over and over again.

Denise – who has been criticised for featuring her two young daughters on the show – has said she hopes it will change misconceptions about her following her public war of words with ex-husband Charlie Sheen.
Mmm, not working so far.
"I wanted the show to be real and the reality is that I'm a single mom to two little girls.  And I would be manipulating the show if I didn't have them in it," she told the AP.

"But everything's real. I decided that I'm just going to bare all, be myself, be very candid and for better or for worse people can judge for themselves."
Denise keeps it "real" below.

Eastwood To Lee: Shut Your Face

Clint Eastwood has responded to Spike Lee's criticism of his two films about the World War II battle of Iwo Jima, Flags of Our Fathers and Letters from Iwo Jima. At the Cannes Film Festival last month Lee told reporters: "There was not one black soldier in both of those films. ... In his vision of Iwo Jima, Negro soldiers did not exist." However, in an interview with Britain's Guardian newspaper published today (Friday), Eastwood said his film was about the American soldiers who raised the flag on Mount Suribachi during the battle. He noted that the black troops who participated in the battle were part of a munitions company that was not involved in the flag raising. "If I go ahead and put an African-American actor in there, people'd go: 'This guy's lost his mind.' I mean, it's not accurate." He then angrily said of Lee: "A guy like him should shut his face."

Pilot Preview: J.J. Abrams’s ‘Fringe’ Brings ‘X-Files’ Weirdness Back to Fox

Courtesy of Fox

This week, Vulture's taking a look at the best and worst of the fall season's picked-up TV shows. Which are good? Can anything replace Cavemen? And, most important, what's worth a DVR season pass?

Title: Fringe

Stars: Anna Torv, Joshua Jackson (Dawson's Creek), Lance Reddick (The Wire), John Noble (Lord of the Rings)

Network: Fox, Tuesdays at 9 p.m.

The pitch: Another spooky mystery from J.J. Abrams, this one with an overtly supernatural vibe.

Pilot report: When an entire 737 full of passengers is exposed to a deadly chemical that boils them down to skeletons in gruesome seconds, FBI agent Olivia Dunham (Torv) and her office romance, Agent John Scott (Mark Valley), are part of the investigatory team called in to Boston's Logan Airport. With the help of a Dr. Walter Bishop (Noble), a genius scientist sprung from a mental institution, and his recalcitrant son Peter (Jackson), Dunham begins to uncover a worldwide plot called the Pattern — as the mysterious FBI agent Broyles (Reddick, better known as The Wire's Cedric Daniels) tells her, ""It's as if someone out there's experimenting, but the whole world's their lab."

Representative dialogue: The show's a pretty expert mix of pseudoscience and horror, so we'll offer two:

Dr. Bishop: The human brain generates a quantifiable electric field. I posited in 1976 that it is possible to synchronize the fields of two distinct minds to allow the sharing of information across the unconscious state, like a string between two tin cans.
Peter: You know what's great about that is that it's completely insane.
Olivia: You're saying that I can talk to John in a coma … and he can tell me what the suspect looks like?
Dr. Bishop: It's not an exact science —
Peter: It's not even science!

But also:

Co-pilot: "BLAAAAAAAAARRRRRRGH!" [Skin melts away, jaw falls from skull]

Breakout star: Between her Blanchettesque good looks and willingness to strip down to her underwear in the pilot, we feel pretty confident that Torv will be appearing in the fevered dreams of nerds all too soon.

Worth a season pass? Yes. An X-Files with the mythology laid out from the get-go, Fringe promises to ride grody special effects, the chemistry of its oddball trio, and Lance Reddick's basso profundo to the genre promised land. After watching the pilot, we can only say: More, please.

New York judge bars 50 Cent from selling property

NEW YORK - A New York judge has ordered US rapper 50 Cent not to sell the property where a fire destroyed his US$2.4 million home and where his ex-girlfriend lived with their son.State Supreme Court Justice Carol Edmead also ordered the woman, Shaniqua Tompkins, to pay the rapper US$4,500 in rent by Friday for staying in the house during its final month, lawyers for both sides said.Tompkins sued 50 Cent, whose real name is Curtis Jackson, for half of his estate based on an oral agreement the two made early in their decade-long relationship, said Tompkins' lawyer, Paul Catsandonis.Tompkins was living in the Long Island home with their 10-year-old son until a fire broke out in the early hours of May 30. Police said they were investigating the fire as suspicious.Tompkins escaped through a window and six people, including children, were treated for smoke inhalation, Catsandonis said."I think it speaks volumes about Mr. Jackson" that he would compel Tompkins to pay the rent, Catsandonis said, calling it an "undue hardship."

But 50 Cent's lawyer, Brett Kimmel, said Tompkins has repeatedly ignored court orders to pay the rapper, and that paying rent was a condition of her continuing to live in the house."My client is not the one who started a lawsuit for US$50 million," Kimmel said. The two are due back in court on July 15.Since his debut album in 2003, 50 Cent has built a business with a record label, a clothing and footwear line, ringtones and video games. He has also starred in a movie based on his life, Get Rich or Die Tryin'.- REUTERS

Charlize talks marriage

Charlize Theron has never yearned to get married, and insists she has no plans to tie the knot with boyfriend of seven years Stuart Townsend, femalefirst.co.uk reports.

The couple has been subject to numerous marriage rumours throughout their long romance, but maintain they are as close and committed as any married couple, and have no plans to change their situation.

The actress tells the July issue of Glamour magazine, Even when I was a little girl I never dreamed of the white dress and all of that. I want to be clear: I am not judgmental about marriage. I am judgmental about how our government doesnt want to see the reality of gay and lesbian marriages.

Married or not, Theron insists maintaining a long relationship requires effort. The Oscar winner adds, I think if you are in a one or two-year relationship, love is enough. You can thrive on that.

When you hit years three and four, you realize that if youre going to live with somebody ... you have to be nurtured emotionally and spiritually, and you have to be intrigued.

Because if that intrigue runs out, youre not going to want to go home anymore.
